California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Orange County due to a chemical leak at a manufacturing plant.
Newsom announced this on his X account. On May 21, at the GKN Aerospace facility, methyl methacrylate overheated, causing pressure buildup and toxic fumes.
Despite efforts to cool the tank, the risk of leakage or explosion remains. Police Chief Amir Al-Farra stated that approximately 40,000 people were evacuated in Garden Grove.
