As people age, their teeth darken even with good care. Russian dentist Andrey Zhuk, a candidate of medical sciences, shared his opinion with Gazeta.ru.
According to the expert, tooth color is influenced by age-related changes in enamel, eating habits, and overall dental health.
He emphasizes: “It is impossible to completely stop darkening - this is part of natural age-related changes. However, slowing down the process and maintaining the natural tooth shade is entirely possible.”
Over the years, the enamel layer thins, making the yellowish dentin more visible. Pigments from coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco accumulate and are not always removed by regular brushing.
Darkening is more pronounced in teeth that have undergone pulp removal. In such cases, internal tooth whitening can help.
He adds: “Regular professional cleaning, using a soft toothbrush, and monitoring dietary habits play a major role in preserving tooth color.”
