PCWorld journalists have identified limited RAM as the main problem of cheap computers running Windows.
At Computex, they analyzed the praised Dell XPS 13 model. Despite having an OLED screen and backlit keyboard, it only has 8 GB RAM to keep costs down.
Dell offers this $699 model to compete with MacBook. However, experts say 8 GB RAM is insufficient for Windows to run properly.
Editor Brad Chacos notes that Windows 11's RAM management is much weaker than macOS. He believes Microsoft must urgently optimize the OS, otherwise cheap computers with low memory become pointless.
