A resident of Shaanxi Province in China, surnamed Shen, has been trying to claim ownership of an apartment he bought years ago in a new building.
According to reports, the scandal stems from the fact that the floor on which the apartment was supposed to be located does not actually exist.
In 2013, Shen purchased a 90-square-meter apartment on the 34th floor of a building under construction near Xi'an. He made an initial payment of 117,700 yuan (about $16,000) and the construction company promised to deliver the apartment in 2015.
Construction was delayed, and the company announced the building's completion only in 2017. When Shen went to collect the keys, he discovered the building had only 32 floors. The company initially offered him an apartment on another floor, but months later said that was not possible either.
Eventually, Shen demanded a refund. The company only returned part of the money, then cut off contact. The court ruled in favor of the buyer, ordering the company to pay the remaining amount.
