Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced that the foundations of statehood will be "fundamentally renewed" after the new Constitution comes into force. He stated that a new model of government will be formed: a strong president, an influential parliament, and an accountable government.
Tokayev spoke at the final joint session of the old parliament, emphasizing the need to radically renew the foundations of Kazakh statehood and qualitatively improve the public administration system.
On March 15, a referendum on the new Constitution was held, with 87.15% of voters supporting the changes. The reforms include replacing the bicameral parliament with a unicameral one and restoring the post of vice president.
The Kazakh government justifies these changes as a demand of society and the need to implement the "state for people" principle more effectively.
