Lithuania's Seimas (parliament) has approved the candidacy of 42-year-old Mindauqas Sinkyavičius, leader of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), for the position of Prime Minister.
Oxu.Az reports that this information was published on the parliament's official website.
"The position of Prime Minister is not a matter of title or personal ambition. It means taking responsibility for the government's actions, sometimes for decisions that cause concern but are necessary," the Seimas press service quoted Sinkyavičius as saying.
Mindauqas Sinkyavičius becomes the youngest Prime Minister in Lithuanian history. Previously, the youngest was Ingrida Šimonytė, who was 44 when appointed.
The LSDP leader's candidacy was supported by 80 deputies, two voted against, and 28 abstained.
According to parliament members, despite his young age, Sinkyavičius has all the necessary qualities to lead the government.
Recall that earlier Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda accepted the government's resignation. Ingrida Šimonytė and her government stepped down on June 23, due to changes in the ruling coalition.
