China has strongly opposed US plans to deploy Typhon medium-range missile systems in Japan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun called the system a strategic offensive weapon. He said such actions harm other countries' security interests and increase the risk of an arms race.
Beijing also noted that Tokyo's desire to host these systems shows Japan's accelerating remilitarization and preparation for prolonged conflict. This challenges the post-war international order, the spokesperson added.
China called on Washington and Tokyo to abandon these plans. According to Kyodo news agency, the US plans to deploy Typhon and HIMARS systems at Kanoya Air Base in Kagoshima prefecture during exercises from June to September.
