Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš has stated that the European Union (EU) is following the path of the Roman Empire in its final days.
In an interview with the Financial Times, Babiš criticized the EU's decarbonization policy, claiming it is driving the European economy to collapse.
The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 AD due to internal problems and external threats, historians say.
Babiš also noted that the Czech Republic will likely fail to meet NATO's target of spending 2% of GDP on defense this year.
He attributed the budget deficit to excessive spending under former Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
