Heavy intermittent rains over the past week in Turkey's Tokat region have raised water levels in the Yeşilırmak River.

According to NTV, the Almus dam, used for agriculture and energy, exceeded capacity and caused overflow, flooding many farmlands.

In Turhal, a 3-day holiday was declared for schools; 15 neighborhoods and 7 villages were evacuated. Residents were placed in shelters and hotels. Stone barriers were built along the Yeşilırmak.

Two bridges on the river were demolished as they hindered water flow. Sandbags were placed in front of riverside homes, and many businesses closed.

AFAD head Ali Hamza Pehlivan said Almus dam reached 100% capacity and Kılıçkaya dam in Sivas is being discharged. No casualties have been reported so far.
