A dead whale found near Anholt Island in Denmark has been identified as a humpback whale named "Timmy".

According to Oxu.Az, citing Bild newspaper and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, experts identified the whale through a tracking device on its dorsal fin.

The 15-ton mammal required divers and veterinarians to approach the underside of the carcass for identification.

"Timmy" had previously been stranded in shallow waters in the Wismar Bay off the German coast. Despite being stuck for weeks, it managed to swim back to open sea after the water level rose.
