A drunk taxi driver lost control and drove into a crowd in Sri Lanka, killing six people and injuring seven others.

The accident occurred in Meeqo, 30 km from Colombo, during a Buddhist festival food distribution. The driver crossed into the opposite lane.

Thirteen people were seriously injured. Six – three men, three women (including a 15-year-old girl) – died before reaching the hospital.

Police arrested the 42-year-old driver. Investigations confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol.
