The situation regarding the spread of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) could worsen significantly, reports say.
Oxu.Az cites the publication "Actualité" reporting that the country's Minister of Social and Humanitarian Affairs, Eva Bazaiba Masudi, made the statement.
According to the minister, if the virus spreads to the displaced persons camps in Ituri province, the daily death toll could reach 1,000.
According to information, approximately 1.15 million displaced people live in 69 camps operating in the Ituri region.
Earlier, it was reported that 42 new Ebola infections were recorded in one day in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu, and the total number of deaths from the virus in the country reached 473.
Recall that on May 17, the World Health Organization declared the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern.
It is noted that this is the 17th outbreak of the Ebola virus in the region. Currently, there is no approved treatment or vaccine against the "Bundibugyo" strain.
