The European Union (EU) has officially launched membership negotiations with Moldova.
According to Oxu.Az citing TASS, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos announced this after the first intergovernmental conference with Moldova in Luxembourg.
The decision to start talks with Moldova was entirely linked to a similar decision regarding Ukraine, as the two countries are grouped together in the enlargement process and must progress through all stages synchronously.
"The cluster of fundamental negotiations covers five chapters: justice, freedom and security; legal and fundamental rights; financial control; public procurement; statistics. Candidates must fully align their legislation with EU norms in all these areas.
It is noted that on June 15, EU membership talks with Ukraine also began.
