The European Commission has taken Poland to the EU Court of Justice for failing to meet the requirements of the aviation emissions directive.

The updated climate directive phases out free emission quotas for airlines. Poland failed to incorporate these rules into national law by the December 2023 deadline.

The Commission is seeking financial penalties, including a lump sum and daily fines. A final court decision is expected in at least two years.
