A powerful explosion occurred at a sports club building in western Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Rescuers are conducting operations to save people trapped under the rubble. According to NOS TV, the explosion happened at night around 02:00 local time (Baku time).
Seven people were pulled from the debris immediately after the incident. Two of them were hospitalized in serious condition. In the morning, rescuers found signs that more people might still be under the rubble.
Authorities estimate that search and rescue operations may continue until at least the evening. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
The owner of the sports club stated that CCTV footage shows the explosion occurring under the floor of the building. The ground floor housed gas communications, a transformer substation, and storage areas.
Residents of a nearby nine-story residential building were evacuated. About 100 people who could not find temporary shelter were placed in a hotel.
Damage to energy equipment left 233 households without electricity. Gas supply in the area has been temporarily suspended.
