In the first quarter of 2026, France's unemployment rate rose to 8.1%, the highest since 2021.
According to INSEE, the number of unemployed increased by 68,000 from the previous quarter, reaching 2.6 million.
Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau called the figures 'disappointing'. He noted that although 4 million new jobs have been created since 2010, the current situation is not encouraging.
