A large-scale operation was conducted against the Guzelbahce Municipality in Izmir, Turkey, by the Republic Chief Prosecutor's Office. The mayor and several others were detained.
The Chief Prosecutor's Office stated that the operation was based on charges of "forming a criminal organization," "bribery," "abuse of office," and "violation of zoning and construction laws."
During the operation, at least five people were detained, including Guzelbahce Mayor Mustafa Gunay, a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP), former mayor Mustafa Ince, and the head of the Architecture and Urban Planning Department.
The suspects were brought to court after initial questioning. The court ordered the arrest of Mayor Mustafa Gunay and Architecture Department head Ozgur Bayraktar, while the other three were released under judicial supervision.
