Just 28 days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, Iran's participation is in doubt.
According to Oxu.Az, citing RMC Sport, the Iranian national team has yet to receive US visas.
Mehdi Taj, President of the Iran Football Federation, expressed serious concern, noting that none of the team members have obtained visas. The geopolitical tension in the Middle East and the lack of diplomatic relations between Washington and Tehran since 1980 complicate the situation.
Taj announced a crucial meeting with FIFA in the coming days and will demand guarantees for visa resolution. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has promised that Iran's matches in the US will proceed as planned, but no real progress has been made on documents.
The team is expected to depart for Ankara on Monday, May 18, for fingerprinting and pre-tournament training. If delays continue, Iran may be forced to withdraw from the prestigious event.
