Iran has warned the United States and Israel to refrain from attacking during the farewell ceremonies for the country's late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
According to Oxu.Az, the state radio and television company reported this, citing Ali Abdollahi, head of the "Khatam al-Anbiya" Central Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces.
The Iranian military official threatened the mentioned countries with harsh retaliatory strikes: "In these great and instructive days, we warn Iran's enemies, primarily the US, Israel, and their regional and extra-regional allies, to avoid any wrong actions. They must not forget that any threat or aggression against our dear homeland will be met with a very harsh response by the sons of the Iranian people serving in the armed forces."
Recall that on February 28, the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran. The largest cities of the Islamic Republic, including the capital Tehran, were hit. The White House justified the attack with rocket and nuclear threats from Iran. As a result of the strikes, Ali Khamenei and other key figures of the country's leadership were killed.
The farewell ceremony for Khamenei will begin on July 3 in Tehran. At least 100 high-level delegations from different countries will attend the mourning event on Friday. From July 4 to 5, the Ayatollah's body will be kept at Tehran's Mosalla (the largest religious and public complex in the Iranian capital), where everyone can bid farewell.
On July 6, a funeral procession will take place along the main streets in Tehran, after which the body will be taken to the city of Qom, the country's main religious center, and mourning ceremonies will be held there on July 7. On July 8, Ali Khamenei's body will be sent to neighboring Iraq, where separate farewell ceremonies will be held for local Muslims in Karbala and Najaf. The burial ceremony will take place on July 9 in Iran, in the city of Mashhad, where he was born.
