Interpol's Montenegro branch and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) jointly arrested a 39-year-old Iranian and Turkish citizen in Kotor.
The individual is accused of orchestrating cyberattacks on US infrastructure since 2013, causing $3.4 billion in damages.
Montenegrin police acted on a direct extradition request from the US. The suspect hacked over 150 American universities, with stolen data used for the benefit of Iranian entities, including SEPAH and educational institutions.
The suspect is expected to be extradited to the US.
