Israel has stepped up military operations against Hezbollah to inflict maximum damage before a potential US-Iran agreement that could limit its freedom of action in Lebanon.
According to Al-Monitor, Israel aims to weaken Hezbollah to secure a more favorable deal with the Lebanese government.
Tel Aviv fears a US-Iran deal would severely limit its ability to pressure Hezbollah. While Washington pushes Israel to negotiate with Beirut, Israeli forces still operate with relative freedom.
In May, the IDF struck 20 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon in one day. Representatives from Israel and Lebanon are set to meet in Washington on May 14-15 for comprehensive peace talks.
