On June 26, a framework agreement was signed between Israel and Lebanon with US mediation, potentially laying the foundation for peace between the two countries.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced this during a visit to Romania. Herzog emphasized the desire to live in peace with all neighbors.
The president stated that the European Union and the international community must support these agreements, while helping to restore Lebanon's economy and ensure Israel's security.
Herzog also noted that Israel seeks peaceful relations with Syria and is interested in a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Under the agreement, Israeli forces will hand over two zones north and south of the Litani River to the Lebanese army. Gradually, the Lebanese armed forces will restore effective sovereignty over the entire territory. Non-governmental armed groups will be disarmed and their military infrastructure destroyed.
