Israel said it struck the head of Hamas' armed wing in Gaza on Friday, describing him as an architect of the October 7, 2023 attacks that sparked the two-year war.
Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who became Hamas' military chief after Mohammad Sinwar was killed in May 2025, is the most senior Hamas official targeted since a U.S.-backed truce in October.
PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz said Haddad was responsible for killing and abducting thousands. They did not confirm his death.
Medics and witnesses reported an airstrike on an apartment in Gaza City's Rimal district, killing at least one person, followed by a second strike on a nearby vehicle.
