A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck off the southwestern coast of Japan.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located 8 km east of Wadomari, Kagoshima Prefecture, at a depth of 42 km.
No casualties or damage have been reported, and no tsunami warning was issued.
