Five Italian nationals have lost their lives while diving in the Maldives.

According to Oxu.Az citing AFP, the divers tragically died while attempting to explore underwater caves at a depth of 50 meters.

Italy's Foreign Ministry reported that local authorities are investigating the incident. The body of a young man was first discovered inside the cave.

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) stated that aircraft and speedboats have been deployed in the search operation. The search will continue through the night, with a coast guard vessel coordinating operations at the scene.
