A man was arrested at Cape Town International Airport in South Africa for attempting to smuggle 150 scorpions out of the country.

According to SABC radio, the scorpions were hidden in plastic bags among clothes in checked luggage. Police had received prior intelligence about the attempt.

The 28-year-old smuggler was detained and will face charges of illegal possession and transportation of wild animals.

The intended destination and the species of scorpions have not been disclosed.
