Melanoma is one of the most aggressive and insidious types of cancer. Russian oncologist Andrey Kaprin warned about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the doctor, melanoma accounts for more than 14% of all malignant skin tumors. Among all oncological diseases, it ranks 13th.
People with fair skin, blond or light hair, light eyes, those with many moles, and those with a family history of melanoma are at high risk. Also, individuals on immunosuppressive therapy are in the risk zone.
Kaprin noted that sunburns in childhood significantly increase the risk of melanoma later in life and urged parents to protect children from the sun.
Oncologist Suna Isakova mentioned the international "ABCDE" method for self-examination: asymmetry, borders, color, diameter, and evolution. If a mole is asymmetric, has irregular borders, multiple colors, or is larger than 6 mm, seek medical attention.
