Mexican soldiers shot down a drone flying over the sports complex where the South Korean national football team was training.
According to the Yonhap news agency, on Tuesday, the Korean team held a closed training session in Sapopan. Security staff spotted a UAV during warm-up and alerted Mexican military personnel, who neutralized the device.
The two suspected operators fled the scene with the drone before authorities arrived. The Korea Football Association has asked local police to investigate.
Coach Hon Myon Bo commented: "Fortunately, it happened before tactical drills, so it didn't affect us." However, he regretted the incident during the critical preparation period.
Mexican sources reported that several drones have been shot down recently in restricted zones around stadiums in at least three cities. The match between Mexico and South Korea is scheduled for June 19.
