Russian FSB officers prevented a terrorist attack on a gas carrier that arrived from Belgium at the port of Ust-Luga in Leningrad region.
Mines were placed on the vessel named "Arrhenius". The operation was conducted jointly with the Investigative Committee, the Defense Ministry, and the National Guard.
The ship arrived from Belgium on May 20 and was supposed to head to Samsun, Turkey, after stopping in Ust-Luga. During an underwater inspection, explosive devices resembling naval magnetic mines were found.
Each device contained about 7 kg of plastic explosives. Experts believe the mines could not have been installed in Russian territorial waters.
A criminal case has been opened, and the search for suspects is ongoing.
