Moldova Initiates Withdrawal from CIS Treaties

Moldova has formally started the procedure to withdraw from the core CIS treaties. The process will take one year, but economic ties may continue.

The CIS Executive Committee has received Moldova's application to withdraw from the main treaties of the Commonwealth.

CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev announced at a round table that the procedure has been initiated and will last one year. However, Moldova expressed its desire to remain in economic cooperation.

President Maia Sandu approved the decision to exit the founding agreement, Charter, and Alma-Ata Declaration.
