Major General Roman Hofman, born in the former USSR, officially assumed the role of head of Israel's foreign intelligence service MOSSAD on June 2.

Oxu.Az reports that this information was released by RIA Novosti.

Israeli Prime Minister's advisor Dmitri Gendelman stated that this appointment is of historical significance. According to him, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed once again that important positions in the country are entrusted to the most professionals regardless of their origin.

The ceremony was held at MOSSAD headquarters, attended by the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Knesset, and the Chief of General Staff.
