A public toilet in Norway's Andøya island has been closed over fears of espionage.

According to Dagbladet, the facility in the Bukkeserk rest area was considered one of Norway's most scenic toilets.

The building cost $2.17 million to construct, featuring mirrored exterior walls and panoramic views inside.

The closure is believed to be due to 'political security' reasons. It may be reevaluated after inspections.

The Norwegian Armed Forces will hold consultations on the matter.
