The Peace Council has ruled out the future participation of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip.
According to Oxu.Az, the council posted on social media platform X: "There is no place for UNRWA in a renewed Gaza."
It is stated that the Peace Council marks a new phase for Palestinians, leaving behind ongoing conflict and dependence on humanitarian aid. The statement added: "Gaza residents deserve a more prosperous future."
Recall that earlier, the US administration called on UN member states to stop funding UNRWA and redirect funds to the Peace Council, established at US initiative.
Notably, on January 22 this year, during the Davos World Economic Forum, representatives of 19 countries signed the Charter of the Peace Council to restore peace in Gaza. The body was established to govern the Gaza Strip based on an agreement between Israel and Hamas. It is also planned that the council may work on resolving and preventing conflicts in other regions in the future.
