The latest episode of "Military Chronicle" on Baku TV analyzed recent personnel changes in the Armenian Armed Forces, particularly the appointment of the head of the National Defense Research University.
The most notable point was the appointment of Colonel Artsrun Hovhannisyan, known as "Gopchu Artsrun" in both Armenia and Azerbaijan after the 44-day war.
Founded in 2016, the National Defense Research University organizes strategic education programs and conducts research on regional security and military strategy.
This think tank has received support under NATO's special program and established connections with institutions like Harvard and Chatham House.
Although Hovhannisyan is an artillery officer, he was the main figure conducting briefings for the Armenian Defense Ministry during the 2020 war. He falsely portrayed the retreat of Armenian troops as a "tactical withdrawal" and spread misinformation about the liberation of Hadrut.
After the war, he admitted to spreading these lies to maintain morale and waged information warfare, then resigned. His reappointment as head of the main military-scientific institution has sparked great interest.
