Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov learned Turkish as a punishment for not scoring enough points to learn his desired foreign language.

According to Oxu.Az, Peskov told journalists: "I couldn't score the required points even on the second attempt to gain the right to choose the language. I actually wanted to learn Arabic. Because of my low results, I was forced to learn Turkish."

He noted that after years of hard work studying Turkish and deepening his knowledge in Turkology, he found the experience extremely valuable. Peskov is a graduate of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University.
