The death toll from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao island in the southern Philippines has risen to 68, local authorities reported.
Another 33 people are missing. The natural disaster affected approximately 1.4 million people, with 18,500 of them evacuated to shelters.
The earthquake occurred on the morning of June 8 off the southern coast of Mindanao. Some 2,500 houses were damaged, and 460 were completely destroyed. The worst-hit areas were the provinces of Davao Occidental and Sarangani, as well as General Santos City.
