Armenian citizens arriving from abroad, including Russia, to participate in parliamentary elections are being handed military summons at the border and Yerevan airport.

Oxu.Az reports, citing Sputnik Armenia, that this was stated by Taron Chakhoyan, assistant to the head of the Armenian Prime Minister's staff.

"Citizens arriving from abroad will be called up for 25-day training camps. Those who refuse will face criminal liability," Chakhoyan emphasized.

It should be noted that military camps in Armenia run from March 31 to June 19. Commenting on the issue, Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan stated that citizens liable for military service arriving in the country have a duty to the homeland. When asked whether this rule applies only to those coming from Russia, Papikyan said the requirement applies to all persons liable for military service arriving from France, the USA, and other countries.

Recall that early parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia on June 7.
