US federal prisons are turning into mini-airports for drug-carrying drones. Authorities launched the largest operation in history to stop contraband.
According to The Wall Street Journal, dozens of people are accused of smuggling weapons, phones, drugs, and escape tools into at least ten prisons.
FBI agent Marlo Grimm said: "Drones fly so often in the evenings it resembles a small airport." The investigation uncovered 38 incidents. The network operated from Louisiana to Virginia.
In 2024, 479 illegal drone entries were recorded, compared to just 23 in 2018.
