US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he expects the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey to be 'fun'.
He spoke during hearings at the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as reported by Oxu.Az.
'The NATO meeting will be fun,' Rubio said, alluding to US complaints about allies.
When asked about US commitment to NATO, Rubio noted that one key benefit of membership is access to allied military bases during emergencies.
'Some countries, like Spain, openly pride themselves on not allowing us to use their bases. If a main reason for membership is base access, and some members deny it during crises, it questions the value of US participation,' he stressed.
The 36th NATO summit will be held on July 7-8 at the Beştepe Presidential Complex in Ankara. Turkey last hosted a NATO leaders' summit in Istanbul in 2004.
