Russian businessman and billionaire Mikhail Smirnov died in a severe road accident in the Priozersk district of the Leningrad region.
According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Smirnov lost control of his Triumph Bonneville motorcycle, veered into the oncoming lane, and collided with a Haval car. He sustained severe injuries and died before the ambulance arrived.
The 47-year-old Smirnov ranked 108th among Russian billionaires with a fortune of 7.79 billion rubles (185.5 million manats). He co-founded Neva Oil and Baltic Fuel Company, and created nearly 20 enterprises in restaurant, oil, consulting, and food delivery sectors.
In 2024, the businessman ceased operations and divested all assets. The Motor solidarity club suggests the crash was caused by a sudden overtaking maneuver or a faulty electronic throttle. Footage shows the biker was thrown several meters away. The investigation continues. The Haval driver was unharmed.
