Western defense companies plan to deploy new naval drones to escort ships and clear mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Financial Times, the UK is set to send autonomous mine-hunting vessels produced by Canada's Kraken Robotics to the area.
Germany's Atlas Elektronik is expected to join the operation with its Seafox autonomous underwater vehicle.
Industry leaders say the goal is not to neutralize all mines but to create a safe corridor for commercial shipping.
Simon Tucker, CEO of UK's SRT Marine, stated that discussions with clients in the Persian Gulf focus on clearing paths along convoy routes to ensure no threats remain.
