A 38-year-old man has died after being attacked by a shark near Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, Western Australia.

According to Oxu.Az, this information was provided by BBC News.

Emergency services report that the incident occurred near Horseshoe Reef, one of the region's most popular tourist destinations.

"It is believed the 38-year-old man was attacked by a shark. He was brought to shore by boat and met by paramedics. Unfortunately, his life could not be saved," the statement said.

Witnesses reportedly saw a white shark about five meters long approximately 80 meters from the shore.
