A cruise ship named "Ambition" has been quarantined in Bordeaux, France, with approximately 1,700 passengers on board.

The quarantine was ordered after a man died from gastroenteritis caused by norovirus.

The deceased was a British citizen over 90 years old.

Another 50 passengers and crew members have fallen ill, leading to the isolation of everyone on the ship.

The vessel arrived from the Shetland Islands, making stops in Belfast, Liverpool, and Brest, France.

A team of doctors has been sent to collect biological samples for testing. Passengers and crew are prohibited from leaving until results are available.

Authorities state there is no connection to hantavirus; the outbreak is likely gastroenteritis spread in the confined space.
