On May 26-27, solar flare activity is forecast to be low to moderate, with possible X-class flares, the highest category.
According to Oxu.Az citing TASS, this information was provided by the Russian Institute of Applied Geophysics.
"On May 26 and 27, low to moderate activity is expected on the Sun, with possible X-class flares," the statement said.
Solar flares are classified into five categories based on X-ray intensity: A, B, C, M, and X. The minimum A0.0 class corresponds to 10 nanowatts per square meter at Earth's orbit. Each step increases power tenfold. Flares are often accompanied by coronal mass ejections, which can reach Earth and cause magnetic storms.
