A terrorist attack in northwestern Pakistan has killed at least nine soldiers and wounded over 20 others.
The incident occurred in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. A terrorist driving a vehicle loaded with explosives entered the military camp and detonated the device. Immediately after the blast, militants opened fire on the soldiers. Several attackers were killed in return fire.
Radical groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are attempting to establish a self-styled Waziristan Islamic State. The region is located on the border with Afghanistan, in tribal areas. It is one of Pakistan's most volatile hotspots due to the increased activity of militants from the Al-Qaeda terror network and the Fitna al-Khawarij group (also known as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan or the Pakistani Taliban movement).
