President Donald Trump has appointed Tom Barrack, the U.S. ambassador to Turkey, as the special representative for Iraq.
Trump announced on Truth Social that Barrack will also continue his role as special representative for Syria.
"Tom Barrack will strengthen our strategic cooperation with both countries," Trump wrote.
He will remain ambassador to Turkey and receive full support from the State Department.
Barrack was appointed ambassador to Turkey in April 2025 and special representative for Syria in May 2025.
