US President Donald Trump has backed off his idea of taking Greenland by military force.

According to Oxu.Az citing Danish media, the US ambassador to Denmark, Kenneth Howery, made the announcement during the opening ceremony of a new consulate in Nuuk.

"The president has removed the use of force from the agenda. Greenland's future must be decided solely by its local population," he said.

Recall that in January, in a phone interview with The Atlantic, Donald Trump, while discussing military operations in Venezuela, emphasized that the US needs to control Greenland. "We need Greenland absolutely. It's important for our defense," he said.
