US President Donald Trump has demanded gasoline retailers lower prices immediately, warning of serious consequences if they fail to comply.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that current oil prices are around $68 per barrel and falling, making high gas prices unjustified.
He stated that a gallon of gasoline should cost around $2.50, and urged California to reduce fuel taxes.
Last week, Trump announced investigations into Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Shell, and BP for alleged price gouging.
According to the American Automobile Association, the average price for regular gasoline is currently $3.86 per gallon.
