US President Donald Trump stated in an interview with the New York Post that negotiations between Washington and Tehran are progressing rapidly.
He said Iran has agreed to abandon nuclear weapons production, and a potential deal will bring many positive changes.
Trump noted that Supreme Leader Khamenei is involved in decision-making during the talks. He did not rule out that the naval blockade against Iran will remain in place until September.
On February 28, Israel's defense minister announced a preemptive strike on Iran, with the US joining the operation. Iran retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at Israel.
On March 1, Khamenei was reported killed. Iran launched missile strikes on US bases in neighboring countries, closing their airspace.
On April 8, Trump declared a two-week ceasefire hours before his ultimatum expired. The first meeting was held in Islamabad, but the second scheduled for April 22 did not take place.
