US President Donald Trump and his team are trying to persuade Congress members to adopt a resolution symbolically overturning the two impeachment proceedings from his first term.
According to Oxu.Az, citing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Trump is the only US president to have been impeached twice, in 2019 and 2021. The House of Representatives supported the charges, but the Senate acquitted him both times.
The newspaper recalls that in April, Republican Congressman Darrell Issa introduced a resolution to declare both impeachments invalid. The document, co-authored by 23 Republicans, proposes "resetting" the procedures as if they never happened. House Speaker Mike Johnson discussed the resolution with Trump, but said it is not a priority for the party. Even if passed, the resolution would be purely symbolic and carry no legal force under the US Constitution.
